A Legacy Built on Vision, Perseverance and Purity

  • Sometimes, the biggest business journeys begin with a simple question. In 1988, a customer at Hotel Haridwar asked the Shah family: “Can you guarantee that the ice cream you serve is pure vegetarian?” They could not. Ice cream was the only product they outsourced—and that question changed everything.
  • The family's entrepreneurial journey had begun much earlier. In 1971, Late Shri Parmanand Shah and his younger brother, Late Shri Madan Mohandas Shah, founded Hotel Haridwar in Hyderabad to serve pilgrims with pure vegetarian hospitality. Built on personal involvement and uncompromising quality, the hotel earned the trust of generations of customers. The family's commitment to excellence eventually inspired them to make their own ice cream - Scoops Ice Cream.

Overcoming Hurdles

  • In 1989, with no technical expertise in ice cream manufacturing, the Shah family purchased a five-litre batch freezer. Their first attempt ended in failure as the ice cream simply would not form. They realised that machine alone cannot make ice cream; expertise also matters.
  • But they refused to give up. Through trial, error and persistent learning, they invested in mix plants, pasteurization units, homogenizers, ageing vats and refrigeration infrastructure, employed technical experts and dairy professionals who helped improve quality and develop new flavours. What began with just four or five flavours soon found acceptance at weddings, caterers and large events.
  • The next challenge was retail. Poor packaging and weak branding initially held the product back. The family redesigned the brand, strengthened its identity and entered new markets. Despite financial setbacks and the challenges of securing bank funding, Scoops continued to move forward.

Tasting Success

  • The transformation gained momentum with the incorporation of Sri Srinivasa Dairy Products Pvt. Ltd. in 2003 and the establishment of a state-of-the-art 1.5-acre factory in 2012. Production grew from just five litres a day to a capacity of 100,000 litres daily, with Scoops now reaching more than 5,000 retail outlets across 25 cities.
  • They established Cream Stone Concepts in 2009, transforming ice cream into an interactive experience through live preparation and personalized desserts.

Present-day Visionary Leadership

  • The business is today overlooked by Shri Govind Das Shah, Chairman - a strategist grounded in integrity, and Shri Sudhir Shah, Managing Director, and also President of Indian Ice Cream Manufacturers’ Association (IICMA). The third generation has joined with fresh ideas and entrepreneurial spirit – Directors - Shri. Amit Shah, Shri. Amrish Shah, Shri. Viren Shah, Shri. Nakul Shah and Shri. Sahdev Shah.
  • With multiple awards, BIS, ISO and ZED Gold certifications, Scoops is a family legacy built on the belief that quality earns trust, and trust builds enduring success.
