The journey of Ravi Cam Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. (the erstwhile Bharat Cam Industries) began in June 1976 with a clear focus on precision engineering. Starting with the manufacture of single-cylinder Petter-type camshafts for 5 BHP vertical diesel engines, the company established a dedicated setup at a time when indigenous capabilities were limited. Core machinery, including cam profile grinding machines, was developed in-house to suit exact production needs.

As one of the few camshaft manufacturers in India then, Ravi Cam Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. catered to OEMs and the replacement market nationwide, producing nearly 7,000 camshafts per month for over a decade. A major milestone came in 1985 with an order from Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd., supported by technical collaboration that upgraded processes and machinery. Over 2,00,000 camshafts were supplied to them as a single external source.

Today, under the leadership of Director Sagar Mulik, the company has become well-known across the globe.

Intensifying competition and shifting demand prompted a strategic shift toward multi-cylinder camshafts for tractors and automobiles. While international collaboration was explored, the company ultimately chose self-reliance. The absence of cam profile measuring instruments posed a challenge, but innovation prevailed. Leveraging CNC wire-cut technology, Ravi Cam Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. developed its own master cam manufacturing process. Validation support from Automotive Research Association of India and Kirloskar Cummins Ltd. proved crucial. By 1995–96, the company achieved a defining milestone—complete in-house master cam development—enabling the creation of over 350 camshaft variants for domestic and global markets.

The next phase focused on inspection and infrastructure excellence. Advanced cam profile testers were introduced and even developed in-house, achieving micron-level accuracy. Results were cross-validated by Lombardini at its Rieti plant using Adcole systems. Investments in CNC turning, cam grinding, cylindrical grinding machines, and a dedicated tool room further enhanced precision and repeatability.

With end-to-end camshaft expertise firmly established, Ravi Cam Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. expanded its MIDC facility and capabilities. Over the years, it has successfully developed camshafts for organizations such as Hindustan Motors Ltd., Lister Petter Ltd., Delphi TVS, and Bharat Earth Movers Limited.

Today, it stands as a symbol of sustained innovation—combining in-house design, precision manufacturing, and selective outsourcing—to deliver world-class camshafts for engines across industries and continents.
