Rooted in Trust, Grown with Responsibility
The story of the Kannurkar family is one of quiet perseverance, evolving enterprise, and a deep bond with the land. It began in the early 1900s in Kalaburagi, where the family first established itself in the precious metals trade. In an era when formal contracts mattered less than a person’s word, the business was built on trust, integrity, and enduring relationships. These values became the foundation on which future generations would stand.
A defining moment came in 1954, when the family expanded its horizons under the vision of Shri Dattatreya Kannurkar. With the establishment of Arvind Medical Store, the family entered the pharmaceutical field, marking a transition from traditional trade to community-focused service. This step reflected an ability to adapt with time while remaining anchored to ethical principles.
Expanding Horizons
The next chapter was shaped by Shri Arvindrao Kannurkar, a civil engineer by qualification and a steward of legacy by choice. After a brief tenure in a state government organisation, he returned to the family fold, bringing with him technical insight and disciplined thinking. Alongside strengthening the family’s business interests, he remained deeply connected to the ancestral agricultural lands, ensuring that progress never came at the cost of roots.
Agriculture, for the family, was never merely a livelihood – it was identity. Generations had worked the same soil, and the current custodian chose not only to preserve this inheritance but to elevate it. Now, Shri Arvind’s son Shri Srinivas Kannurkar is at the helm of it all with sustainable and organic farming being at the core of it all.
“With a conscious shift towards organic and chemical-free farming, the focus turned to sustainability and long-term soil health. Sugarcane, soybean, pigeon pea, chickpea, sorghum, and wheat are cultivated using natural methods that reject synthetic fertilisers and chemical pesticides. Instead, organic compost, crop rotation, and soil-enriching practices ensure that the land remains fertile for generations to come,” shares Shri Srinivas Kannurkar.
Beyond field crops, the family also nurtures mangoes, grapes, sweet corn, and oranges. Horticulture demands patience, vigilance, and respect for nature’s rhythms – qualities that define the family’s approach. Each harvest is not just measured in yield, but in quality and balance.
Responsibility towards People and Land
For the present generation, organic farming is not a passing trend but a moral responsibility. Healthy soil leads to healthy crops, and healthy crops sustain healthier communities. In staying true to this belief, the Kannurkar family continues a journey that began over a century ago – one rooted in trust, strengthened by adaptation, and guided by responsibility to both people and the land.
